Parish Council

A Parish Council is the first tier of local government. Hermitage Parish Council has 11 councillors.

We meet on the third Thursday of each month in the Adelaide room at the back of the village church. Meetings start at 7.30pm. All meetings are held in public and are fully minuted with agreed minutes being posted on the Notice Boards, at the Post Office and on the Village Website.

Hermitage Parish Council performs the following roles:

  • Comments on all Planning Applications for our village and those from other parishes that will affect our community.


  • Maintains all open spaces in within the parish boundary that are owned by the Parish; this includes Pinewood Park, the Burial Ground and the greens at Lipscomb Close and Dines Way.


  • Ensures they are up to date with activities and concerns of the village by:

Starting each council meeting with a 'Public Open Forum'

Liaising with the appropriate body on community concerns e.g. West Berkshire Council or Local Landowners

Having representatives at regular meetings of the Neighbourhood Action Group which involves our local Police Officers and representatives from neighbouring parishes

Having councillors who interact with Community Groups such as School, Pre-school, Scouts/Cubs, Village Hall and Church

  • Makes grants to local groups which benefit some or all of our community


  • Holds Annual Parish Assembly in April each year ensuring each house receives an invitation


  • Holds Christmas Tree Lights event and serves tea in the Village Hall after the Annual Village Walk


  • Supports the Village Vision Group in rewriting the Parish Plan


The Parish Council have no responsibility for the Village Hall which is run by the Village Hall Management Committee
